Austlen Baby Co. approached M3 Design with a provisional utility patent and a business case for creating the world’s first expandable and retractable stroller frame with storage capability. Austlen had uncovered a parenting pain point: no stroller manufacturer had adequately addressed the challenges of hauling kids and the inevitable gear that comes with them. The M3 team helped Austlen take that idea from a “napkin sketch” into architectural investigations, and we built proof-of-concept prototypes. In parallel with creating mechanical architectures, M3’s design team helped define stakeholder workflow maps, initial industrial design visions, and design gestures, and armed Austlen with collateral to tell a visual story that helped move the company forward as they raised funds.
The resulting product is a truly versatile stroller that can haul up to 150 lbs. of kids, luggage, groceries, and gear. Austlen’s Entourage provides over 30 handy configurations, giving parents the utility they need during daily activities, while growing with their children through various stages. Since hitting the market, Austlen’s Entourage has received top honors from authorities in the juvenile product market, including JPMA Best in Show, MomTrends Must Have 2017 Winner, New York Family magazine’s Hottest Strollers, babyMaternity Magazine 2017 TOP CHOICE OF THE YEAR award, 2017 Best in Show at the New York Baby Show and LA Baby Show, and 2017 Blogger Favorite at the New York Baby Show, along with accolades from numerous opinion leaders in the market.
